Nick Szabo

From Satoshipedia, the Satoshi Mail encyclopedia

Nick Szabo is a computer scientist and legal scholar who wrote about smart contracts in the 1990s and in 1998 designed bit gold, a mechanism for a decentralised digital currency.[1] Bit gold is one of Bitcoin's precursors, although the white paper does not cite it.[2]

Szabo does not appear in Satoshi's correspondence. In December 2013 a stylometric analysis by Skye Grey linked him to the white paper,[3] and in 2015 Nathaniel Popper of the New York Times pointed to him. He has repeatedly denied being Satoshi.[1] The Satoshi Nakamoto Institute keeps a large collection of his essays in its library.
