Update log
Every update to Satoshi Mail, newest first. Follow along with the RSS feed.
Switch between Satoshi's addresses
- Click the address at the top right to switch between the three Satoshi used: satoshi@anonymousspeech.com, satoshi@vistomail.com and satoshin@gmx.com. The footer's “Last account activity” follows along. It's just for fun; the archive stays the same.
- The select-all checkbox, row checkboxes and “Add star” for selections are gone. Star any conversation with its own star.
Sources, editors and contact
- Every Satoshipedia article now ends with its primary sources: the messages and commits it draws on, linked in Satoshi Mail and where they were first published.
- Articles now say who publishes them and how they're written, when they were last updated, and where to send corrections.
- Four articles that cited only Wikipedia now also cite the court judgment or the Bitcoin blockchain itself.
- The About page explains why Satoshi Mail exists and how it's made, and gives an email address for contact and corrections.
- The inbox is now clearly labelled as an archive presented as Satoshi's inbox.
Back to 2008
- Satoshi Mail now looks the way Gmail did in 2008: the light-blue frame, text links instead of icons, “Compose Mail”, blue-grey rows and grey buttons.
- A link bar along the top replaces the app dock, with “satoshin@gmx.com | Settings | Help | Sign out” on the right.
- A Web Clip above the inbox shows a real Satoshi quote, with arrows to read more.
- Quick Contacts lists his correspondents with status lines, like Hal Finney's “Running bitcoin”.
- The footer shows Satoshi's last account activity, 26 April 2011, and links to the basic HTML view.
Nothing disappears from the inbox
- Archive, read and unread, and Refresh have been removed: Satoshi Mail is a reading archive, so every conversation now always stays where it belongs.
- Anything archived or marked read in your browser before is back in place. Stars still work.
Verify the archive, timestamped in Bitcoin
- Every email, forum post and commit now has a fingerprint (a SHA-256 hash of its exact contents), and each version of the archive's list of fingerprints is timestamped in the Bitcoin blockchain with OpenTimestamps.
- Open any message's details and choose “Verify this message”: your browser recomputes its fingerprint and shows the Bitcoin block proving it hasn't changed since.
- The new Verify page lets you check your whole copy of the archive at once and download the proofs to check them yourself on opentimestamps.org.
The envelope logo in Google and on phones
- Satoshi Mail's envelope logo now comes in every size Google, browsers and phones look for, so search results can show it instead of a grey globe once Google recrawls the site.
- Add Satoshi Mail to your phone's home screen and it gets the logo too.
Licenses and terms
- The About page now lists the license and terms of everything in the archive: MIT for the code, CC BY-SA 4.0 for Satoshipedia, and each source's own terms for the messages.
- Google's dataset listing for Satoshi Mail now links to those terms.
A bigger, easier Satoshi Map
- Connections: zoom and pan the chart (scroll, pinch, drag or the + and − buttons); names stay readable and more appear as you zoom in.
- Find anyone with the new “Find a person” box; picking someone zooms to them.
- A bigger month slider with year marks and milestone dots you can jump to, and a compact key on the chart.
- Timeline: one big chart with numbered milestone pins. Select any month to see what Satoshi wrote then, with links to every message and commit.
- Arrow keys step through months, and Escape steps back out one level at a time.
Update log
- This page: a log of every update to Satoshi Mail, newest first, with an RSS feed to follow along.
Easier to find, easier to read
- Every page now has its own title and description in search results, and Google can match “SatoshiMail” as one word.
- Clearer contrast for grey text, labels and badges, bigger touch targets for checkboxes, and tidier headings for screen readers.
- The site is registered with Google Search Console and its sitemap submitted.
Faster loading
- The first visit downloads less than half as much: commit diffs load only when you open a commit or search, and only the icons in use are downloaded.
- Repeat visits load almost instantly, because the app's files are now cached for a year and renamed whenever they change.

Satoshi by name
- The message list says “Satoshi” where it used to say “me”, as in “Satoshi, Hal 3”. Searching from:me still works.

New home at satoshimail.vercel.app
- Satoshi Mail now lives at satoshimail.vercel.app, and everything needed to rebuild it is on GitHub.
- Visits are counted with Vercel Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and doesn't record what you search for.
- The “page not found” page keeps its styling at any address.
Exact dates from the correspondents' own copies
- Satoshi's five emails with Adam Back now have their exact send times, from Back's copies filed in COPA v Wright.
- Satoshi's second email to Wei Dai is correctly dated 10 January 2009, from Dai's own copies.
- Satoshipedia's Adam Back and Wei Dai articles cite both, including Dai's 2023 answers to COPA's lawyers.
- A credit to Luke Igel and Riley Walz's Jmail, which inspired Satoshi Mail, in the sidebar, About and the beta notice.
A 2010–2013 Gmail look
- Arial, square corners, grey buttons, the red COMPOSE button and yellow highlights, as Gmail looked when Satoshi was writing.

New material from public records
- Satoshi's 2009 emails with Nicholas Bohm: 16 conversations and 64 emails, 25 of them by Satoshi, from Bohm's evidence in COPA v Wright.
- Three test topics from the Bitcoin forum's staff area, written before it opened in November 2009: 30 posts, 20 by Satoshi.
- The exact time of Satoshi's last email to Gavin Andresen, with Gavin's reply.
- New Satoshipedia articles: Nicholas Bohm, COPA v Wright, Kleiman v. Wright and the forum staff board.

Send feedback, and a simpler app
- Send feedback from Settings or Satoshipedia: it drafts a post to @TylerHowell88 on X.
- A Sources page under Settings → Archive lists where everything comes from, instead of source chips on every conversation.
- The density setting, the apps grid and the People and More apps were removed.

AI Overview in search
- Searches like “Hal Finney” or “did Satoshi have any photos” get a short AI-written overview, answered only from this archive and Satoshipedia, with links to the sources.
Changes: 0c069e0
A new look, inspired by Jmail
- Jmail's colours, rows and app dock, with an overview banner at the top of search results.
Cross-checked against satoshin.name
- Every one of satoshin.name's 567 posts and emails was matched to the archive, and Satoshi Mail has six BitcoinTalk posts it lacks.
Changes: 57d7744
Open source launch
- Satoshi Mail, Satoshipedia and Satoshi Map, open source under the MIT license: every email, forum post and commit by Satoshi Nakamoto, 2008–2011.
