Forum staff board (2009)

From Satoshipedia, the Satoshi Mail encyclopedia

The forum staff board is the name used here for three test topics from the staff area of the Bitcoin forum, written while Satoshi was setting it up in November 2009, before he opened it to the public on 22 November (his announcement). The topics were later deleted from the forum, and are preserved as PDF files created in July 2012 and published at bitcointalk.org/first_topics.[1] Times are as the forum printed them.

In “SMF Config Notes” Satoshi listed his changes to the forum software: a 12×12 coin image in place of SMF's “pip stars”, the registration page's “hide your e-mail address” box ticked by default, and the Announcements board kept to moderators (the topic). After Martti Malmi (sirius) switched on e-mail confirmation for new accounts in December 2009, Satoshi asked in January 2010 why: he had already customised the registration page so that spambots designed for SMF “won't be able to figure it out”, with a hidden extra parameter in the CAPTCHA address and three CAPTCHA images of which only one shows.

In “Testing the new site platform” he posted a run of replies reading only “blank”, explaining: “I have to get the number of posts up over 20 so the topic will have multiple pages” (the topic).
